NSW scraps Stamp Duty for First Home Buyers

By Melissah Douglas

“First home buyers in NSW have mixed reactions to the state government’s announcement it will scrap stamp duty for existing homes under $650,000, as industry argues that the threshold should be lifted.” – http://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/2017/06/01/pointless-or-helpful-nsws-first-home-buyer-stamp-duty-sweetener-gets-mixed

In our opinion, we believe this will have very little effect in our area as the median prices in Balgowlah are well in excess of $650,000. It may provoke second home buyers to sell in outer areas and move towards the beaches, however we don’t for see this to be of any influence to the market place.  Investors looking to purchase lower priced investment properties may be overrun by First Home Buyers.
